AYA exchange students are doing great things! Here is a fantastic story out of Missouri, courtesy of Cindy, a Local Coordinator in The Show-Me State.
Quiyu Zhao is an AYA exchange student from the Republic of China, known as Agnes to her classmates in Missouri. She is a member of Tonka HOSA, Winnetonka High School’s Chapter of HOSA – Health Occupations Students of America, a student organization for future health professionals.
Recently, Tonka HOSA competed in the 2017 Missouri HOSA State Conference. At this event, Quiyu placed 3rd, in Medical Math. Her classmate, Ayan Farah, also placed 3rd, in Medical Reading. As a result, both students qualified for the HOSA International Leadership Conference taking place this June in Orlando, Florida.
Because Quiyu will have returned home to China before the International Leadership Conference takes place, her parents have agreed to fly her back to compete at the event, which she will attend with her classmates. Winnetonka High School has already made the necessary arrangements for her participation.
Let’s take this opportunity to congratulate Quiyu and Ayan and wish them success at the next level of competition!
It’s worth a special mention that the advisor for Tonka HOSA, Carolyn Knapp, was recently honored as a Teacher Who Inspires by KMBC 9, after a moving nomination was submitted by Winnetonka High School students. Great teachers motivate great students, so kudos to you all!
