Learn more about why Thore was nominated to be the June 2025 Student of the Month:
As one of this year’s AYA’s Global Youth Trailblazer Grant recipients, Thore organized a community service project called Goals for Good. The event consisted of a soccer kick-a-thon where participants could score goals to raise money from sponsors to go to local schools to help school counselors meet student’s physical needs. In the end they raised over $5,000, and Thore was the recipient of a Hero Award from the Lovis Foundation!
“Thore has made an immeasurable difference in his community. Since his arrival, he has embraced any opportunity (including joining the cross-country team because friends asked him to—even though he later found out it involved running which he doesn’t like). He has stepped out of his comfort zone because he only had 10 months and wanted to make the most of it. He learned about Arkansas weather, and sadly, lived it as his community was hit by a tornado and flooding. Thore embraced his school and his host family and represented AYA well in all aspects of his stay. Thore wanted to get the most out of his 10 months—but even more so, he wanted to give the most. This world changing student decided to develop a large scale community service project. He did not think about the what-ifs-he just did it. Thore connected with community members and area businesses and raised awareness about how counselors and school employees meet not only the educational needs but the physical needs of students. He raised money and collected donated items for area schools. This event took a lot of planning and countless hours of work, but Thore says it was well worth it. Not only did Thore’s event have an immediate impact, but it will have a lasting one.” – Marti, Thore’s Local Coordinator in Arkansas
