Learn more about why Abdul was nominated to be the January 2025 Student of the Month:
“Abdul is always kind. He is quick to help [his host dad] with any projects, like outdoor yard work, painting, removing air conditioners and lots of other weekend projects. He is always thankful and is happy to explain anything about his country or religion in a respectful way. He never sounds judgmental. He is a devout Muslim living in a home with transgender and gay family members and yet he still forms relationships and truly cares about us all. He volunteers at school. He has created at least four presentations on different subjects about his country. He arranged all his presentations with the help of the guidance counselor, asking what subjects classes were interested in.” – Jocia, Abdul’s Host Mom

“Abdul has the funniest vlog on YouTube under the name Mr. Mannu. He vlogs about his life in the USA in both Urdu and English. It’s hysterical, simple but darling! He always has a positive attitude. He is the first try step up for a new adventure and the first to thank you for the opportunity. Aside from numerous volunteer activities, he also sought out opportunities in his school. He helps out with Pre-K during nap time with the setup of cots and encourages kids to rest. He was so excited about IEW and his presentations were varied and so well received that the school posted about it on social media. He was still presenting in December. I cannot think of a more deserving student for this honor than Abdul.” – Terri, Abdul’s Local Coordinator in New York
