As we wrap up Local Coordinator Appreciation Week, we feel it’s important to touch upon a major aspect of what an LC does. An important part of the Local Coordinator role is educating the students about life in the United States and providing them with opportunities for unique, meaningful cross-cultural exchange. Our students come to America hoping for a learning experience, and with help from the LCs, they get just that.
Lindsay B, an LC from the New York City area, helps AYA students in her area with encouragement and excellent guidance and support. She provides the students she supervises with a well-rounded, educational experience and offers them the opportunity to be exposed to current events and local happenings for a true cross-cultural exchange. One of her students, Saidimar (who you may recognize as AYA’s Student of the Month in March), shares his perspective:
Meet my Local Coordinator, Lindsay. Lindsay is very helpful and kind to me and her other students from Germany, Thailand, Brazil, Spain and Austria. She assures our safety, helps us with our problems, and she makes sure that we are having a wonderful stay in the United States. She knows a lot of things and educates us about New York and current issues and asks us what we think of it. She is a motivator and is a very positive human being that exchange students would want to be with. Lindsay is the best! – Saidimar Salim, AYA Student from the Philippines
Thank you, Lindsay, and all Local Coordinators for providing our students with the opportunity to learn and grow as global citizens.
To all of our amazing, generous and caring Local Coordinators: We appreciate you! Thank you for helping us bring the world together.
