As current students are wrapping up the year at high school’s across the country, let’s take a look back about a year ago to a submission from a very special student. Imran from Bangladesh took time out of his busy schedule to write the following essay about his diverse experiences as a YES student attending high school in Pennsylvania:
Taking Advantage of Everything Offered to Me
My name is Imran, and I am from Bangladesh. I’m a senior at my U.S. high school. I really enjoyed my stay here in Pennsylvania. I liked my trips to Chicago, New York, Virginia and Florida. I enjoyed working with the track team and the elementary school recreation department. I was able to learn a lot of new things when I volunteered at the elementary school recreation department and the Red Cross, too!
I’m glad to be a regular member of the Art Club, International Club, Going Green Club, All Things Business Club and the Leo Club at my school. All of the club members did so many things together, and it was a great opportunity to make wonderful friends. The Leo Club induction ceremony, sponsored by Lions International, was one of my proudest moments.
Midyear orientation in Disneyland was awesome! I’m honored to have met all of my fellow exchange students and members from the AYA team.
I’m having a great time with my American family now. We are doing lots of things together like visiting many historical and entertainment places in Pennsylvania. I really like tennis and I am playing for the school team. My stay in Pennsylvania has been great, and I have done so much! I would like to give very special thanks to my Local Coordinator, American family and of course AYA!!
AYA students come from locations across the globe and like Imran, arrive with incredible drive, determination and appreciation for the opportunities ahead of them. If you are thinking about hosting an exchange student, you’ll find many advantages to hosting with AYA.
We hope you enjoy hearing about the accomplishments of our AYA students and host communities as much as we do! Please leave us a comment or reach out via social media—and keep the stories, pictures and videos coming. We love hearing from you.
