Razan’s Exchange Year: Life in Two States

Academic Year in America international exchange student - journey

Razan, a YES student from Kuwait, was fortunate to live in two states for a whirlwind of adventure during her time in the U.S. First, she was a student living in Texas. Next, she moved with her host family to New York. Razan enjoyed her experiences so much, and lucky for us, she shared the following story.

My name is Razan and I am from Kuwait. I’m currently living in Hornell, New York. I was living in Texas before I came here, and I’m going to share my best experiences in both places!

My best experience in Texas was when I received Homecoming Duchess, especially because we don’t have homecoming in our school in Kuwait. Also being able to experience the Mexican lifestyle and culture was amazing! I enjoyed going to South Padre Island on Christmas, even though it was really hot down there!

Spending time with my friends was always so much fun. Every single thing we did will be a memory! I know that I have made lifelong friendships!

Living in New York was something else. It was so much fun! I spent most of my time with my family. We went to New York City a couple of times, and it was always a wonderful experience!

Visiting the Capitol building and Vermont with our coordinator was a pleasure. We had loads of fun! We went to a Yankees Game, and we also went to see Good Morning America Live!! It was unbelievable!

Something else I’m really excited about is the 5k Color Me Rad run that I am doing with my host mom! And of course PROM!!

Something I’m not looking forward to is leaving…

Thank you to Razan and all AYA students, host families and Local Coordinators that take time to tell us about their adventures in cultural exchange. By letting us share your special memories, you help bring the benefits of international education and cultural awareness to people that may not yet have had such opportunities firsthand. It’s a wonderful thing, so please keep in touch. We LOVE hearing from you!
