The 2015 exchange year is underway and our students are experiencing American culture for the first time. Our host families and Local Coordinators across the US are doing a wonderful job making their students feel at home and making it a smooth transition into the academic year.
Local Coordinator Dina from South Caroline organized an AYA student get together at her home for everyone to join in some fun and in true American fashion. Dina hosted a sleepover for her students with a kickball game and clothes swap. “Every year I get the students together for a weekend and it’s always a blast!” shared Dina.
On Friday night the students enjoyed a little at home shopping. “I collect clothes that past students don’t take home with them and let the new students go on a shopping spree” said Dina.
On Saturday morning the students’ host families arrived to have a breakfast with their students and then played a kickball game out in her field. What a fun way to kick off the year!
On Sunday the fun continued with one of her host families inviting everyone to a ‘Welcome Pool Party’ full of games and swimming. It looks like a lot of new friendships were made!
Overall it was an amazing weekend made possible by our wonderful, students, families and Local Coordinators. AYA is very proud to see the program come to life in all these happy faces! We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year will bring you!
