Why did you want to do an exchange year in the United States?
“I wanted to do an exchange year in the United States to learn more about Americans other than what I know from media and stereotypes. In general, I love traveling to non-touristy places and finding out how people from other cultures live. However, I also wanted to learn more about myself and I thought that going to the other side of the world by myself will help me with that.”

What do you love about your host family in Tennessee?
“My host family are empty nesters. My host sisters moved out a long time ago, so I live with just my host parents and my double placement from Germany. I love her so much and treat her like my real sister and best friend! I appreciate how much our host family keeps us in mind. I really feel like I became a part of their family and they of my own. I always feel comfortable in my house here and usually call it my home. I’m 100% we’ll keep in touch after this exchange ends.”
What have you learned about American culture and how have you shared your culture with Americans?
“I’ve learned that Americans are really friendly to everyone and smile a lot. I’ve started smiling so much more in photos since coming here. I love answering all the questions they have about Poland, it’s really fun! I’m a folk dancer back in my country, so I like showing our traditions. I made Polish national dish, pierogi, for my host family for Christmas and also made a presentation about my country for IEW.”
