Academic Year in America exchange students come to the United States from all over the world with a variety of skills, talents, and hobbies. We wanted to showcase how amazing our students are! We asked them to share a video or picture of themselves dancing, singing, acting, playing an instrument, cooking, or whatever their talent may be! Check out these incredible write-ups and visuals of what they’re really proud of.
Amina from Azerbaijan, hosted in Idaho:
One of my accomplishments in USA is Art. I took two art classes in high school. And my teacher found out that I have talent and I had to say that actually I am already in Art Academy in my country. But the great thing is he let me try oil painting. I have done Indian horse picture with oil color and it was my first time that I have used oil painting in my whole life and 2 months later I gave it to the lady at my school who was Sheriff detective. She said that she really liked it and asked if I would give it to her to hang on the wall in her office. I said yes and it was a great compliment for me. I enjoy my Art classes to spend my time for my own interests. I can draw and try whatever I want to. And it is so great that school supplies you with everything. I also gave a lesson of water color to my host family’s church friend’s kids.
Chanielle from Germany, hosted in Michigan:
Liza from Estonia, hosted in Idaho:
I don’t think it can be considered as a talent, but I’m very happy that while being in America I made one of my dreams come true. I wanted to learn how to play guitar for so long, but only in US I made my first steps and I’m improving skills every day. It makes me so, so happy!
Jakob from Germany, hosted in Oregon:
Alina from Germany, hosted in Kansas:
My talent is to write. I love to write down my thoughts and play with words. It makes me happy. This poetry is about our fear to say soon goodbye, our fear to leave and our pride to be an exchange student.
Guilherme from Brazil, hosted in Michigan:
Ecem from Turkey, hosted in Illinois:
I want to share my “talent”, which is in the pictures, three of my artwork; two colored drawings and a handmade mug. As my talent, I wanted to share those three because they are from the nearest part of my heart even if they are not perfect. Those two pictures I draw and the mug I had the opportunity to make here in the United States, showed and taught me that I have a talent to do so! I couldn’t even draw a Stickman or I couldn’t believe that I could draw, but these drawings are the real proofs that we can do anything if we really want and believe! Thanks to Yes Program and AYA for helping me to find who I am and who can I be, for the future or just for the moment. Everything is possible of you believe, just try with your heart!
Lise from France, hosted in Pennsylvania:
So my talent is that I do circus! I am in a circus band in France and I do a lot of different circus artistic skills like trapeze, juggling, aerialist, tightrope walker, unicycle… (it’s a modern circus so we don’t use animals) and also a lot of acrobatics as you can see on the picture (I’m on the middle with the blue shirt).
With my band we perform in a lot of different festivals in France and last year we even did a tour in Cambodia! We went to orphanages and schools for deaf and blind children to perform our show and teach them some circus skills, and just make them happy because their life is not always as easy as ours! (The picture was taken in an orphanage in Phnom Penh, Capital of Cambodia)
Barbare from Republic of Georgia, hosted in Virginia:
I like cooking very much. I have cooked several times for my American mom and friends. They really like Georgian dishes! Here is the video of me making Georgian meat dumplings “Khinkali” and pictures of me making American cookies, meat dumplings, Georgian sweetbread, Georgian candy “Gozinaki” and Georgian cornbread “Mchadi.”
Emma from Germany, hosted in Arizona:
I play the flute, the piano and the Ukulele. My biggest dream is to be a professional composer (I am already competing in composition) someday).
