Community service is often an engaging and rewarding way foreign exchange students can learn something new, help out and have fun as part of a team. In Ohio, Local Coordinator Cindy Anderson arranged for a group of AYA foreign exchange students to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Rini, a student from India, shared the following account of his experience with the group.
This was my very first experience building a house, something that I never expected to do. It was a lot of fun and hard work. Some of my tasks included carrying wood in a cart from place to place, applying yellow glue to the wood so that it would stay in place, sweeping the floors and hammering nails into the wall. I really enjoyed this experience so much, especially all of the cooperation from everyone involved! I have learned that it is not easy to build a house, but with a cooperative and hard working team you can get anything done! I am so grateful to be part of such a wonderful opportunity.
