AYA Student Athletes Shine

Exchange students receive sports awards
North and Jan receive their Letterman awards

As Americans, we may take our sports culture for granted, but this is actually a fascinating aspect of life in the U.S. for many visiting students. The games we play, the clubs we form, and the sports we compete in can be pretty different from the norms in other countries. Some activities, of course, are much the same.

In either case, many AYA students enjoy the opportunity to participate in American sports while they are students here. Joining high school sports teams can be a great way to learn something new, get some exercise, make friends and have fun.

Courtney F., a Local Coordinator and host mom from North Carolina, shared the following about her two international sons.

My Thai and German sons (North and Jan respectively) are amazing American athletes! They not only received their Varsity letters and stars for participating on multiple Varsity sports teams, but also brought home 4 trophies!

North received the coaches award for soccer and basketball. Jan was awarded MVP for soccer and the coaches award for Track.

North said “We don’t have anything like this in Thailand!”

Jan said “This is amazing; we don’t have anything like this in Germany either!”

If you have space in your home and room in your heart to host an international student athlete like North and Jan, visit AYA today to learn more about this exciting opportunity.
