AYA Local Coordinator Appreciation: Kelly

AYA Appreciates Local Coordinators

To show appreciation for the caring and dedication that our Local Coordinators provide day in and day out, AYA headquarters is sending a special shout out to one fantastic LC today. Both Pieter and Tom (pictured above) shared high praise for Kelly B. from Kansas. An excerpt from Pieter’s letter of commendation for this energetic and awesome Local Coordinator follows.

Pieter from AYA appreciates Kelly, an LC from Kansas: I would like to extend a huge shout out and show my appreciation for Kelly B. in Kansas! Until this past December, I had not really had the pleasure of working with her directly, since she was not one of my Local Coordinators. However, we always got to hang out at the annual AYA National Meeting and other cool events with Academic Year in America.

From our first meeting, I could tell Kelly was a fabulous LC and an even better person. I want to thank Todd also, for being such a fun-loving guy and so supportive of Kelly’s efforts on behalf of AYA exchange.

The main reason that I love working with Kelly is that she is always willing to help and go that extra mile in finding wonderful homes for our exchange students. Recently, I asked her to help me place one of our AYA grant students. She didn’t have any current leads in her area, but she agreed to try her best to place him. Although this may not sound like a big deal, it was to me. Her willingness to go the extra mile to help a deserving student is not something I take for granted.

Kelly always has a wonderful cluster of kids that enjoy great activities in her community. She excels at keeping the kids in her area active and engaged, and I enjoy the fantastic pictures she sends of events that she organizes. She is always available to jump right in to communicate effectively and quickly to help AYA students and host families, which is very important if there are ever any issues.

I could go on forever about how great Kelly is as a person and how valuable she is to AYA. Instead, I want her to know how much I respect her and the job she does — and say thank you for making my job much easier as well (even though you are a Kansas City Royals fan, I can’t hold that against you). You have done excellent work and continue to make such a positive difference as a Local Coordinator. I can’t wait to see you and Todd in Costa Rica!
