Learn more about why Telmo was nominated to be the November 2025 Student of the Month:
“I want to nominate Telmo for student of the month because he has made such an impact at school and the community we live in already!
For the month of August, he was awarded the Student of the Month in school, and he has even joined a local swim club just to maintain his sport out of regular season. His coach has been so impressed with his performance that he has used Telmo as an example for other swimmers on the team and even younger swimmer to model their form after. His Coach often says, ‘Look at Telmo. See how he does this? Be like Telmo’.

The neighbors know that if they ever need any help they can call on Telmo. My elderly neighbors are always saying how wonderful, polite, and courteous he is. He helps the neighbors with even the smallest of tasks without any prompt or asking. He has done well over 20 volunteer hours since being here by just helping local neighbors with tasks like fall yard clean-up, pre-winter cleaning, moving heavy objects with his exchange brother Loucas from France, and actively seeking out tasks.
Telmo is always smiling and has the best demeanor. In my mind he embodies all tenants of AYA core values and is an excellent steward of this program.” – Telmo’s Host Father in Indiana
