Throwback Thursday: My Extraordinary Adventure

Throwback Thursday: My Extraordinary AdventureMy Extraordinary Adventure takes us back to 2015 when Cansu, an AYA student from Germany, shared her American experience:

“Six months have passed now since my arrival to the United States. I have had many incredible experiences, for example, canoeing, camping, a wild cave tour, hiking, football games and an Ed Sheeran concert! I have tried many things for the first time such as soccer and running. I dreamt about things before I came to America and what I would do and what I would see, but the extraordinary adventures I have had here were even better!

People were so kind and took me places that they thought were important parts of America. It was interesting to see all the different personalities and places  in the U.S. and realize how nice people are in this world. I have enjoyed many amazing moments with my host family. I love them; they are like a second family to me and I am so grateful for everything they have done for me. I have gotten to see 9 states, meet wonderful people and learn about different American cultures and traditions. Now, I know what ‘real’ country music is, and I celebrated my first Christmas and Thanksgiving.

I have had so much fun experiencing the ‘American High School Spirit’. My English skills are improving and I have grown up a bit. I am involved in many school activities such as track and field and the Renaissance and French Club. All these experiences have helped me make new friends.

I am wiser now and during my exchange year I realized what the important things in life are. I am very happy and proud of myself that I have overcome challenges that have confronted me. An exchange year is not only about learning English and going to an American high school ‘like in the movies’, it is so much more, and everything is worth it!

Thank you to everyone and to AYA for this special year!”

My school would love to have international students. Trinity Lutheran School (Roselle, Illinois) will provide a rigorous curriculum within nurturing and supportive environment.

Our tuition is approximately $11,500. This includes academic/English tutoring, well being monitor and 24/7 access to student progress reports.

Host Families are usually paid monthly and rates vary.
