Mother’s Day 2019: Exchange Students Give Thanks to Their American Host Mothers | Academic Year in America (AYA)

Exchange students from Pakistan, Germany, Ukraine and Turkey share sweet tributes to their host mothers for Mother’s Day.

This Mother’s Day, we at Academic Year in America (AYA) would like to give a special thank you to all AYA host mothers. By opening your heart and home to international exchange students, you truly make the world a better place. To honor our host mothers this Mother’s Day, we asked AYA exchange students what they loved most about their host moms. Here are a few touching responses:

Ayesha, AYA and YES Student from Pakistan, Hosted in Illinois

“It was my great luck to meet a lady like her. She does everything to make sure I am safe and I am not missing something. She treated me like her own daughter and I am cordially grateful to her for hosting me and doing so much for me. Words can’t express her generosity towards me and everyone without any prejudice. One of the greatest and strongest women I have ever met!”

Merrit, AYA Exchange Student from Germany, Hosted in Illinois

“I love my host mom because she always encourages me. She tries to make every day as good as she can. She takes me to a lot of places. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Cubs game in Chicago or an amazing spring break in Florida. I love her so much because she makes me feel welcome and as a part of her family. Words can’t describe how thankful I am for my American mom. She will be forever a major impact of why I am a better person just because of knowing and loving her.”

Sasha, AYA and FLEX Student From Ukraine, Hosted in Colorado

“My host mom is Virginia and I can absolutely say that I love her with my whole heart. A lot of people think that she is my sister, but her actions can prove that she is my mom. I love her because she makes me laugh in the most difficult situations, helps to find solutions and always makes me happy. Virginia inspires me by how passionate she is towards her job and how much joy it gives her. I’m thankful for everything that she’s done for me and for her patience when I’m asking a ton of questions.”

Aleyna, AYA and YES Student from Turkey, Hosted in South Carolina

“I love my host mom because she gives me love, support, and lots of hugs. She cares about me and shows it. I can go to her for advice, for help, or just for a lovely conversation. She does so much for me, and I know she does it all with love. I am so grateful she’s my mom and she deserves the best!”

Katarina, AYA Exchange Student from Germany, Hosted in Texas

“[My host mom] is the most caring, loving and awesome mom. She is always there for me when I have my downs, we can talk about everything that goes on in the family or outside, we always jam to music in the car together, she helps me and supports me whenever and wherever… I can rely on her whenever I need it.”

Happy Mother’s Day to the selfless host moms described above – and to all of the mothers around the world! Thank you again for all that you do.
